FRIENDS aiding COMMUNITIES SOCCER EQUIPMENT Thanks to Anna from Canberra who, with her friends, supplied soccer balls, soccer boots, gloves and shirts to communities in rural Liberia and Sierra Leone. The communities that received Anna's donation of soccer equipment were remote communites, often inaccessible in the wet season because the roads are very poor, or three hours by car from the nearest major town. The soccer gear was presented to Neor in Grand Bassa County, Boe Town in Grand Bassa County and Mannah in Montserrado County. Most of the soccer pitches were over-grown due to lack of use because they had no equipment, not even a single ball. Where they did have balls, they played with bare feet. Soccer boots are rare. So it was with great excitement and appreciation that these communities accepted Anna's gift. Karcekah Whapoe of Boe Town said, "Now we can cut the grass and play football. Before, we had no balls. Not even one." In Neor, they had a soccer ball but no boots or shirts. Joseph Roberts was so pleased for the children of his town because the range of clothes suited both young and older children. Abraham Doedor of Mannah, in his thanks to Anna, said "All children love to play with footballs." They all thanked Anna who, from the other side of the world, cared for the children in these communities. "Its unbelievable but special to know that someone cares for us," said Mr Whapoe. COMMUNITY RADIO An anonymous friend supported the community radio station, Voice for Montserrado, in Liberia to purchase fuel for the generator so that VFM could go to air, repair equipment, and purchase two tape recorders to interview people in the street for one of their radio programs for youth. Two young men run the radio station without pay, supported by a band of volunteers. An Advisory Board determines the content of the program and provides assistance with fund raising. VFM currently runs for 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening to Montserrado County. The young manager could barely speak when he received the donation because he was so surprised and touched by the unexpected gift. This page is dedicated to friends who have supported my efforts overseas by helping the disadvantaged or disenfranchised youth and communities across the world. FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY - UP TO 50 PROFIT
A book is an excellent fundraising item. A book is inexpensive. It is a great gift or present. Everyone enjoys a book or knows someone that does. And, books are easy to sell, deliver, and account for. In short, books are great for fundraising.
My book, The Sudan Curse, can be used as a fundraiser for your organization. My publisher is very supportive of this idea as well and will assist you.
The hardcover book retails for USD $29.50 and the softcover retails for USD $16.95. Our wholesale price to you is one-half the retail price (USD $15 or USD $8.50). You can choose the price/profit that you sell to your members. You will receive the difference. If you sell it for the full price, you make about $15 per hardcover book sold.
Your participation can be simple and easy. We simply setup a specific buying webpage that will track sales to your members and then we send you a payment each month. All you have to do is feature it on your website and include it in your literature. We have a number of very creative ways to assist you in getting the word out.
I look forward to hearing from you.
